There's a rumor the '09-'10 big bore cam is different, it appears true looking at RPM numbers. And note the Storm is 1699cc, not 1700. ...I'll take all I can get

The rumour has been around for years, discussed on here numerous times, and it's still a rumour.

When i got my BB installed, i had it done by mickey cohen who a the time (maybe stil is, i dunno) was the USA fleet mech for triumph. He was quite adamant that the BB cams were hotter than the stock 1700 cams. He is also a custom builder and racer and knows engines of all kinds in and out let alone triumph. So true or not i guess we will never know, but that guy is probably the most in the know triumph associate of any kind in the USA so i tend to believe him more than not.

And yet AFAIK there is no specific BB tune from .Triumph, you would think if the cam profiles were different to the Storm then a different tune would be manditory.

When Indian were doing stage upgrades they came with a tune relevant to each stage.

Good point. I'm curious too so i just emailed Mickey and i will post his answer if and when he replies. He can be pretty dismissive when asked questions that piss him off so i don't now if he will reply considering asking this appears to question his authority. I asked him if the BB cams are hotter like you once told me, why are there not separate tunes for the factory 1700s and the BB kit? I worded it a bit different to try and not sound like i was questioning his authority but we'll have to wait and see what he says.

Well, i hope you can make more sense of his reply than me because i have no idea what he said...

The 1700 comes with bigger cams. There is no hope up cam. The 1600 got the big bore kit with cams and tune
I emailed him back to try and clarify what i was asking. I'll post back if and when he replies again.

Wow, i dunno if he just found out he was wrong at some point or I misunderstood him or what, but at some point he did say the BB cams were hotter. Maybe he thought i was asking as compared to the 1600? Actually, come to think of it i don't think i even asked, i think he volunteered that info. I dunno. But this was what....12 years ago i guess. Anyways, he replied to my second email as follows, so looks like the 1700 factory bikes have the same cams as the BB.

Me: so are u saying the big bore kit cams are the same cams that come in the storm?

Yes

So i think that pretty much ends any debates on the subject.

Well that makes sense, if the BB cams were different to the factory 1700 they would need a different tune. Thanks for finally clearing that rumour up.

this hotter cam was all beat to death years ago, there is a long thread about somewhere.

I did the BB cam swap on my 1600 (in 2010) and later compared the factory part numbers for the BB cams and the later 1700 cams, same part numbers.

I use the tunes for the 1700 motors.

Agree, I mentioned the discussion above, it wouldn't make a lot of commercial sense to develop different cams for a fairly low production roll out.
